If its a matter of rate: if your rate has a certain amount of time in an A school then they can only take so many people at a time. If they have already maxed that out then they are not going to have you go to boot camp just to sit around for 2-6 months after wards. If its your area/people joining: Your area may have gotten alot of people in, also if there were alot of people joining at once then the computer might have no spots left to award to you if you are interested in getting out. The best thing you can do is go to MEPS and see for yourself. I know I joined May 28th 2004 and left June 24th 2004. Some people take longer and some people like that. Some people it takes less time. Some rates there is no wait, while others there is a wait. It's called "Delayed Entry" and is nothing new. One benefit of delayed entry is that it counts towards time served for pay purposes. Meaning you will get paid raises sooner. When I joined in 1983 I had an 8 month and 11 day delayed entry.
