I really wouldnt pick A-schools based on time.. I dont know whats the shortest, i only know that MA is 8 weeks and Nuc. program is 2 years!!
You usually get your orders for A-school half way through basic training (But dont be fooled! Some people **** at basic and get sent straight to the fleet to do ‘busy work’ on ships so they can prove themselves to be worth the military spending money on training them!) You’ll go to your A-school and you’ll get a POSSIBLE station form 3 weeks or so into A-school, the last few weeks of A-school you are confirmed on where you go. Depending on if you want to go home on 2 weeks leave you can go home and see your family, OR you can stay at your A-school training base until your flight to your station takes off.
Good luck on everything and I hope you find a job you like!
The shortest A schools in the NAVY are usually the undesignated rates like Seaman, fireman, airman. These schools are usually three weeks in length. Believe me you do not want any of these as they will result in you working really long hours both import and underway. I strongly suggest you do not listen to the recruiter if he tells you to pick any of these I strongly suggest you pick a technical rate or you will be sorry.
Don’t be in such a hurry to get to the fleet. The more training you go through, the easier the job you’ll eventually end up in (in most cases).
the shortest is the two week course for UNdesignated Seamen. and you do NOT want that, as all you will be doing for 4 years is chipping paint.
it is RIDICULOUS to pick an A school based solely on how long it is. for one, you want to be qualified to do the job and for two, why be miserable for 4 years when you can get a rating you want instead that may take a few months longer?
